O Diploma Dual é o programa oficial de equivalência internacional ao High School dos Estados Unidos da América. O aluno obtém dois certificados em simultâneo: o do ensino secundário português, de forma presencial e o do ensino secundário norte-americano, de forma 100% online.
O nosso Colégio aderiu a este programa no ano letivo de 2021/2022 e conta, atualmente, com dezassete alunos inscritos.
A Ana Beatriz Cardoso é a primeira alumni do Colégio e está atualmente a estudar Direito Global na Holanda.
Vamos conhecer um pouco sobre a sua experiência no Diploma Dual.
1 – Como ficaste a saber do Dual Diploma?
Fiquei a saber do Dual Diploma por uma sessão no Zoom, que foi feita pela Academica em parceria com o Colégio João Paulo II.
2 – Qual foi a motivação para te inscreveres?
Desde sempre tive o desejo de ir estudar para fora e sabia que um programa como o Dual poderia auxiliar-me nisso. Melhorar o meu inglês e ter novas experiências académicas, foram as principais motivações para me inscrever.
3 – Quais foram as tuas expectativas em relação ao Programa?
Tinha expectativas muito altas em relação ao Programa, desejava melhorar as minhas habilidades no inglês e desenvolver competências que me fossem úteis no futuro.
4 – Qual foi o teu maior receio em relação ao Programa?
O meu maior receio foi não conseguir fazê-lo ou compreendê-lo totalmente, uma vez que todos os materiais facultados e aulas eram em Inglês e porque estava no 11º ano, ou seja, poderia ter dificuldades na gestão do meu tempo.
5 – Como correu o curso?
O curso correu bem, trouxe-me novos conhecimentos e pude aprender muito com os professores nas aulas, e com os materiais que nos eram fornecidos. Apesar do meu receio em relação à gestão do tempo à língua inglesa, não tive problema com nenhum deles. É possível gerir os trabalhos e testes do Colégio com o programa do Dual. Em relação à língua, depois habituamo-nos e temos todo o apoio dos professores se algo não estiver a correr bem.
6 – O formato online teve alguma influência na tua aprendizagem? Quais foram as vantagens e os desafios de estudar online?
Apesar do programa ser totalmente online, não tive dificuldades em estudar e entregar as tarefas. Pelo contrário, o site é muito simples e prático de ser usado e, para além disso, dá-nos a liberdade de estudar e ter as aulas onde quisermos.
7 – Houve alguma matéria ou disciplina específica que tenhas achado particularmente interessante ou desafiadora? Qual e porquê?
As minhas disciplinas preferidas formam Criminologia e Governo dos Estados Unidos. Sempre tive muito interesse em assuntos que envolvessem as leis e a política. Com estas disciplinas tive o privilégio de entender como funcionam os processos do direito criminal, a criação de novas leis e a separação dos poderes.
8 – A comunicação e a determinação são capacidades cruciais num programa internacional. Como interagiste com os teus colegas e professores online e que estratégias utilizaste para superar as barreiras linguísticas?
Os professores tentavam sempre que as aulas fossem o mais interativo possível, para que todos pudéssemos participar e melhorar o Inglês. Apesar de ser tudo em Inglês, não podia deixar que o medo ou a vergonha impedissem a minha participação nas aulas. Todos estávamos na mesma situação, é normal cometer alguns erros, mas sentia-me sempre confortável para comunicar com os meus professores e colegas.
9 – Como é que o Programa melhorou a tua proficiência na língua inglesa? Podes fornecer exemplos de como o teu conhecimento da língua melhorou ao longo do tempo?
O Dual melhorou a minha proficiência na língua inglesa porque todos os textos, tarefas e aulas eram em Inglês, fazendo com que o meu vocabulário e gramática aprimorassem. Depois de algumas semanas, habituei-me à língua e quando me graduei pude notar que compreendia muito mais Inglês e sentia-me mais confiante para falar.
10 – Estudar online requer autodisciplina e uma boa gestão do tempo. Como descreves a tua abordagem para te manteres organizada e motivada enquanto estudavas online?
Desde o início percebi que este Programa exigia tempo e foco. Para me manter motivada, organizava sempre as tarefas que tinha de fazer para cada dia da semana, nunca fazia duas disciplinas no mesmo dia. Desta forma, conseguia entregar tudo até ao fim da semana e fazia as tarefas com calma e atenção.
11 – Qual achas que é a mais-valia de ter este diploma?
Ter um diploma que seja reconhecido no exterior dá-nos muitas oportunidades, tanto nacionalmente como internacionalmente, pois aprimora o currículo e desenvolvemos competências valiosas para o futuro tais como a autonomia, a colaboração, a responsabilidade, entre muitas outras.
12 – Como descreverias a tua vida académica atual?
Sinto-me realizada com a minha vida académica atual. Encontro-me na Holanda a estudar Direito Global, um curso internacional e totalmente em Inglês. Estou satisfeita com a minha escolha de vir estudar par fora. As minhas aulas começaram há pouco mais de um mês e cada vez mais tenho a certeza de que fiz a escolha certa. Apesar de estar numa cidade nova, sozinha, sei que esta é uma ótima oportunidade e que será bom para mim.
13 – Quais são os teus planos para o futuro?
Neste momento, o meu maior plano é finalizar o curso com sucesso e sentir-me feliz a praticar o Direito Global depois da universidade.
14 – O que achaste dos métodos de ensino e da ajuda que recebeste dos teus professores do Dual Diploma?
Os métodos de ensino e de ajuda são excelentes. Todas as disciplinas têm as suas matérias explicadas de uma forma fácil e também ilustrativa. Os professores são acessíveis, e sempre que tinha dificuldades ou dúvidas em relação a algo, podia falar com eles por mensagem, e-mail ou videoconferência.
15 – Que conselho deixarias para os alunos mais novos e para aqueles que estão a ponderar inscrever-se no Diploma Dual?
Este programa traz benefícios a muitos âmbitos das nossas vidas e faz-nos crescer academicamente. Aconselho a todos que desejam ter experiências internacionais que se inscrevam neste curso.

Dual Diploma – Interview with Ana Beatriz Cardoso
The Dual Diploma is the official international high school equivalency program in the United States of America. The student obtains two certificates simultaneously: that of Portuguese secondary education, in person, and that of North American secondary education, 100% online. Our school joined this program in the 2021/2022 academic year and currently has seventeen students enrolled.
Ana Beatriz Cardoso is the school’s first alumni and is currently studying Global Law in the Netherlands.
Let’s find out a bit more about her experience in the Dual Diploma.
1 – How did you find out about the Dual Diploma?
I found out about the Dual Diploma through a Zoom session, which was held by Academica in partnership with Colégio João Paulo II.
2 – What was the motivation for signing up?
I have always wanted to study abroad, and I knew that a program like Dual could help me with that. Improving my English and having new academic experiences were the main motivations for signing up.
3 – What were your expectations regarding the Program?
I had very high expectations regarding the Program. I wanted to improve my English and develop skills that would be useful to me in the future.
4 – What was your biggest fear regarding the Program?
My biggest fear was that I wouldn’t be able to do it or fully understand it, since all the materials provided and classes were in English and because I was in the 11th grade, which meant I could have difficulties managing my time.
5 – How did the course go?
The course went well, it gave me new knowledge and I was able to learn a lot from the teachers and from the materials that were provided to us. Despite my concerns about time management and the English language, I didn’t have any problems with any of them. It is possible to manage the school’s work and tests with the Dual program. Regarding the language, we quickly get used to it and have the full support from the teachers if something is not going well.
6 – Did the online format have any influence on your learning? What were the advantages and challenges of studying online?
Despite the Program being completely online, I had no difficulty studying and handing in the assignments. On the contrary, the site is very simple and practical to use and, in addition, it gives us the freedom to study and take classes wherever we want.
7 – Was there any specific subject or discipline that you found particularly interesting or challenging? Which and why?
My favourite subjects were Criminology and United States Government. I have always been very interested in subjects involving laws and politics. With these subjects, I had the privilege of understanding how criminal law processes work, the creation of new laws and the separation of powers.
8 – Communication and determination are crucial skills in an international program. How did you interact with your classmates and teachers online and what strategies did you use to overcome language barriers?
The teachers always tried to make classes as interactive as possible, so that we could all participate and improve our English skills. Even though everything was in English, I couldn’t let fear or shame stop me from participating in classes. We were all in the same situation, it’s normal to make some mistakes, but I always felt comfortable communicating with my teachers and classmates.
9 – How did the Program improve your proficiency in the English language? Can you provide examples of how your knowledge of the language has improved over time?
Dual improved my proficiency in the English language because all texts, tasks and classes were in English, thus improving my vocabulary and grammar. After a few weeks, I got used to the language and, when I graduated, I noticed that I understood English much better and felt more confident when speaking.
10 – Studying online requires self-discipline and good time management. How would you describe your approach to staying organized and motivated while studying online?
From the beginning, I realized that this Program required time and focus. To stay motivated, I always organized the tasks I had to do for each day of the week, I never worked on two subjects on the same day. This way, I was able to have everything done by the end of the week and complete the tasks calmly and carefully.
11 – What do you think is the added value of having this diploma?
Having a diploma that is recognized abroad gives us many opportunities, both nationally and internationally, as it improves our CV and we develop valuable skills for the future such as autonomy, collaboration, responsibility, among many others.
12 – How would you describe your current academic life?
I feel fulfilled with my current academic life. I am in the Netherlands studying Global Law, an international course entirely in English. I am satisfied with my choice to come and study abroad. My classes started just over a month ago and I am increasingly certain that I made the right choice. Even though I’m in a new city, alone, I know that this is a great opportunity and that it will be good for me.
13 – What are your plans for the future?
Right now, my biggest plan is to successfully complete the course and feel happy practicing Global Law after university.
14 – What did you think of the teaching methods and the help you received from your Dual Diploma teachers?
The teaching and help methods are excellent. All subjects are explained in an easy and illustrative way. The teachers are accessible and, whenever I had difficulties or doubts about something, I could talk to them by message, email, or videoconference.
15 – What advice would you give to younger students and those who are considering enrolling in the Dual Diploma?
This program brings benefits to many areas of our lives and makes us grow academically. I advise everyone who wants to have international experiences to sign up for this course.
