Ana João Ferreira é uma das alunas a iniciar, este ano letivo, o seu percurso académico no Diploma Dual. Frequenta, atualmente, o oitavo ano e obteve um excelente resultado no teste de admissão.
De seguida, ficamos a conhecer as suas expectativas e a sua motivação para ter escolhido embarcar neste novo desafio.
1 – Como ficaste a saber do Diploma Dual?
Eu fiquei a saber do Diploma Dual pela minha irmã, quando lhe foi feita a proposta para participar. Porém, como era mais nova e não me sentia confiante no inglês, não me despertou interesse. Agora, como conheci melhor o programa e o que me poderá permitir, decidi dar-lhe uma oportunidade.
2 – Qual foi a tua motivação para te inscreveres?
A minha motivação para me inscrever foi melhorar o meu inglês de uma forma mais autónoma. Como nos vão ser atribuídas tarefas com um prazo, vou ter de organizar bem o meu tempo e penso que isso é uma capacidade que tenho de trabalhar e que me vai ser muito útil no futuro. Para além dos pontos que já referi, o Diploma Dual “abre portas” nos Estados Unidos e, mesmo que não esteja nos meus planos ir estudar ou trabalhar para lá, é sempre bom ter essa possibilidade.
3 – Quais são as tuas expectativas em relação ao programa?
Eu espero que este programa seja algo que me ajude a desenvolver o inglês e a minha cultura geral, mas também espero divertir-me e conhecer outras pessoas.
4 – Qual é o teu maior receio em relação ao programa?
Como ainda não começou, não sei ao certo com o que contar. Confesso que ainda estou um pouco confusa relativamente à dinâmica das aulas. Tenho de me familiarizar com o modo como vão funcionar as tarefas, os horários e as turmas, mas, quando começar, espero adaptar-me bem.
5 – O formato online deste programa é bastante diferente daquele a que estás habituada. Quais achas que serão as vantagens e os desafios de estudar online?
Como ainda não conheço o formato online do Dual, não posso dar a minha opinião. Porém, penso que lido bem com instrumentos de trabalho digitais, sendo que uso iPad desde o sétimo ano. Os formatos online são versáteis e dinâmicos, pois têm ferramentas interativas que nos permitem entender a matéria de forma mais leve, mas também nos fazem perder a capacidade de trabalhar sem eles, pois ficamos de tal forma habituados a ter aquele suporte que perdemos um pouco a aptidão para improvisar.
6 – Há alguma disciplina que aches que vá ser particularmente interessante ou desafiadora? Qual e porquê?
Estou entusiasmada com todas as disciplinas, pois, como já referi, é tudo novo para mim e gosto de desafios. Acho que vão ser todas muito interessantes.
7 – Como é que esperas que o programa te ajude a melhorar a tua proficiência na língua inglesa?
Como vou trabalhar mais autonomamente, vou ter tempo para entender as bases da língua e como, atualmente, falar inglês é das competências mais requeridas em muitos empregos, é importante conseguir manter uma conversa e falar com fluência.
8 – Estudar online requer autodisciplina e uma boa gestão do tempo. Como descreves a tua abordagem para te manteres organizada e motivada para estudares online?
Concordo. Vai requerer bastante autodisciplina e esforço da minha parte, mas sei que, quando tenho um objetivo que quero alcançar, dificilmente perco o foco. Sou muito persistente e dou o meu melhor.
9 – Qual achas que é a mais-valia de ter este diploma?
A mais-valia que este programa tem é ser diferente, proporcionar experiências que me vão permitir melhorar o meu inglês, fazer amizades e alargar os meus horizontes para o estrangeiro.
10 – Quais são os teus planos para o futuro e em que esperas que o Diploma Dual te vá ser útil?
Embora, como já referi, não planeie estudar ou trabalhar nos Estados Unidos, mas sim na Europa, penso que o Diploma Dual me vai ser útil na medida em que vou aprender a conviver com diversos temas e pessoas, algo que vou encontrar ao longo da minha futura carreira profissional.

Dual Diploma – Interview with Ana João Ferreira
Ana João Ferreira is one of the students starting her academic journey with the Dual Diploma this academic year. She is currently in the eighth grade and achieved an excellent result in the admissions test.
Let’s find out about her expectations and motivation for choosing to embark on this new challenge.
1 – How did you find out about the Dual Diploma?
I found out about the Dual Diploma from my sister, when she was invited to enroll. However, as I was younger and didn’t feel confident in English, it didn’t interest me at first. Now, as I got to know the program better and what it can offer me, I decided to give it a chance.
2 – What was your motivation for enrolling?
My motivation was to improve my English in a different way from the classes I take at school, in a more independent way. As we will be assigned tasks with a deadline, I will have to organize my time well and I think this is a skill that I have to work on and that will be very useful in the future. In addition to what I have already mentioned, the Dual Diploma “opens doors” in the United States and, even if it is not in my plans to study or work there, it is always good to have that possibility.
3 – What are your expectations regarding the program?
I hope this program is something that helps me improve my English and general culture, but I also hope to have fun and meet other people.
4 – What is your biggest fear about the program?
As it hasn’t started yet, I’m not sure what to expect. I must admit that I’m still a little confused about the dynamics of the classes. I have to familiarize myself with how the tasks, schedules and classes will work, but once I start, I hope to adapt well.
5 – The online format of this program is quite different from what you are used to. What do you think will be the advantages and challenges of studying online?
As I am not familiar with the Dual’s online format yet, I can’t give my opinion. However, I think I cope with digital work tools well, considering I have been using an iPad since the seventh grade. Online formats are versatile and dynamic, as they have interactive tools that allow us to understand the topics in an easier way, but they also make us lose the ability to work without them, as we become so used to having that support that we lose some of the ability to improvise.
6 – Is there any subject that you think will be particularly interesting or challenging? Which and why?
I’m excited about all the subjects, because, as I have already mentioned, they are all new to me and I like a challenge. I think all subjects will be very interesting.
7 – How do you expect the program to help you improve your English language proficiency?
As I will work more independently, I will have time to understand the core of the language and as, currently, speaking English is one of the most required skills in many jobs, it is important to be able to maintain a conversation and speak fluently.
8 – Studying online requires self-discipline and good time management. How would you describe your approach to staying organized and motivated to study online?
I agree. It will require a lot of self-discipline and effort on my part, but I know that when I have a goal I want to achieve, I rarely lose focus. I am very persistent, and I always do my best.
9 – What do you think is the added value of having this diploma?
The added value of this program is that it is different, it will provide experiences that will allow me to improve my English, make friends and broaden my horizons abroad.
10 – What are your plans for the future and how do you hope the Dual Diploma will be useful to you?
Although, as I have already mentioned, I do not plan to study or work in the United States, but rather in Europe, I think that the Dual Diploma will be useful to me as I will learn to interact with different topics and people, something that I will encounter throughout my life in my future professional career.
